Report: Trader Joe’s Eyeing Fort Wayne

Our partners at WPTA-TV are reporting a build-out location has been selected at the Jefferson Pointe shopping center on the city’s west side.
While the grocer did not confirm to the TV station that a definite plan is in place, it appears to show promise.
“Nothing is final yet, but we are looking to bring a store to the area. We are taking the necessary steps to make it happen,” Trader Joe’s communications person Kenya Friend-Daniel told WPTA.
The Allen County building commissioner told the TV station that permits have been pulled to allow for interior demolition of several vacant tenant spaces at the shopping center. Commissioner John Caywood said the work is in preparation for a Trader Joe’s.
Trader Joe’s has two locations in Indianapolis, one on west 86th street and the other in Castleton. Fort Wayne would be the third location in the Hoosier state.
According to a report last November in the South Bend Tribune, the South Bend-Mishawaka area is at least two years out from getting a Trader Joe’s, if at all.
The chain has more than 500 stores in 42 states.
