Pokagon Band Distributes Casino Revenue

Subscribe NowFulfilling its voluntary agreement to share a slice of revenue from its South Bend casino, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Wednesday presented checks totaling $860,000 to several nonprofit agencies and the City of South Bend.
The annual contribution is part of an agreement between the Michigan-based tribe and the city to make payments derived from revenue generated at Four Winds Casino.
South Bend uses its share for city services, while the nonprofits use their cut for programs.
“The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi have been a generous partner in our community, and we are grateful for their contributions to improve our city’s parks, open spaces, and neighborhoods,” said South Bend Mayor James Mueller.
Recipients include the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County, YWCA of North Central Indiana, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Jobs for America’s Graduates Indiana, the Bowman Creek Project, Beacon Children’s Hospital, South Bend Community School Corp., and South Bend Venues, Parks & Arts for the renovation of Howard Park.
In addition to the casino in South Bend, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians also operates three casinos in southwest Michigan.
