Collaborations will include inclusive and adaptive sports camps and other programs at each location.
The two organizations already work together on some programs, including Adaptive Tennis, sensory-friendly events and social gatherings.
“We established this formal partnership in order to offer our community the most robust adaptive sports programming options for people with disabilities”, said Chris Angellatta, president and chief executive officer of YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.
The new programs will include offerings for people with physical, developmental, intellectual and visual disabilities.
“Turnstone is proud to partner with the YMCA in an unprecedented effort to empower all youth in our community through sports and recreation,” said Mike Mushett, Turnstone CEO. “Our organizations share a common legacy of offering best-in-class services which help create a healthy and active community that values people of all abilities.”
Turnstone currently offers several competitive sports leagues for people with physical and visual disabilities, including wheelchair basketball, quad rugby and sled hockey. The YMCA will also continue their adaptive and inclusive programs, including swimming, baseball and buddy cycling.
