Our partners at the Daily Journal report Emily Holmes was charged by federal authorities January 30 with wire fraud, identity theft and tax evasion.
The publication in Johnson County reports the U.S. Attorney’s office charged Holmes after a state audit found she allegedly funneled more than $300,000 to personal bank accounts over the course of about four years.
According to the paper, Holmes was a payroll specialist with access to payroll accounts for employees. She allegedly falsified hours for 35 different employees, mostly part-time staff or substitutes. She was fired last April.
Sentencing has not been set, but according to the publication, Holmes could face up to 45 years in prison.
