The Amish Acres complex in Nappanee was sold at auction this week for a total of more than $4.4 million.
The property was divided into multiple tracts for the sale, which were acquired by six different buyers.
Stutzman, along with two partners, purchased one of the tracts, which included the Round Barn Theatre, a 400-seat restaurant, and other related buildings. The partners say they plan to continue operating the facilities going forward.
Stutzman says his wife, sister in law and brother in law will operate the theater.
“My wife and family come from a theater background, and so they are excited to be jumping right in and build right on what’s been going on here at Amish Acres,” Stutzman told WNDU. “We hope to reopen in the spring with new theater productions and family fun for all.”
The auction was packed, standing room only.
Columbia City-based Schrader Auction and Real Estate handled the auction. The company says sellers and buyers were both pleased with the outcome.
“It’s great news for Nappanee and the entire area, and I’m excited to see what the future will bring under the new ownership,” said Roger Diehm, vice president of Schrader.
The previous owners announced in November they were retiring and closing the tourist attraction in Elkhart County.
