Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report plans for the center were unveiled at the Cedar Lake Town Council this week.
Officials told the publication the camp would be located on 150 acres on what was the site of the former South Shore Country Club.
The plans call for a timeline lasting about 18 months to two years for completion.
The first phase of the project calls for creating space for water activities, adventure and climbing, arts and crafts, field sports and indoor meeting space.
The second phase of the project includes residential camping, a dining hall, high adventures such as zip lining and expanded conference and retreat offerings, according to the Times.
“Crossroads YMCA is elated to have the ability to expand our programs and experiences to all. This new opportunity would provide a place for kids, families and adults to explore, connect and build self confidence,” Crossroads YMCA Chief Executive Officer Jay Buckmaster told the publication.
YMCA officials are slated to meet with architects Monday to further discuss plans.
