The health system is hosting a competition for healthcare startups called The Healthy Mom and Baby Innovation Competition.
The goal is to find products, solutions or services that can help reduce the infant mortality rate and then support the entrepreneurs to launch a business.
Parkview is working with MATTER, a global healthcare startup incubator based in Chicago.
“We know infant mortality isn’t just a local or state problem. By partnering with MATTER, we can connect with a global audience of healthcare innovators and potentially discover a solution to this universal issue,” said Jolynn Suko, chief innovation officer, Parkview Health.
The health system says the infant mortality rate in Allen County is 7.3 which is well above the national rate of 5.9.
The competition will culminate in an event May 4 at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research & Innovation.
Finalists will present their ideas to a panel of judges. The winning concept will receive a $10,000 cash award, a one-year membership at MATTER and the chance to pitch their idea to potential investors at an event in September.
