Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report during the last council meeting of 2019, the panel approved the contracts associated with the construction of the facility on a 29-acre parcel.
The publication says the contracts cover landscaping, masonry, detailed excavation, roofing, HVAC, flooring and athletic equipment.
The Times says the project is not fully supported by the town council as the spending was approved on a 4-3 vote.
The new community center will be about 90,000-square-feet and features a gymnasium with three basketball courts and six volleyball courts.
The facility plans also call for a running track, fitness area, a rock-climbing wall, open space and a multi-function event center.
