Rolls-Royce Awarded $67M for Turboprop Supplies

Indianapolis-based Rolls-Royce Corp. has been awarded a $67 million contract for supplies related to the upgrade of the T-56 engine. 

The Department of Defense says this is a five-year base contract with work to be performed in Indiana.

The contract is slated to run through Sept. 30, 2024, but the Pentagon does have a five-year option period to extend the contract.

The DoD says the T-56 turboprop engine is used by both the Air Force and Navy. According to the Rolls-Royce website, the T-56 was also used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on its “Hurricane Hunter” airplanes. In 2015, NOAA’S WP-3D was the first aircraft to be fully equipped with four Series 3.5 engines.

Those airplanes are dispatched from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida and fly into oncoming hurricanes to measure their strength.

The contracting activity is the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, Richmond, Virginia.
