City leaders are to attempting to make the downtown a pedestrian-friendly, aesthetically pleasing environment that would include an upscale apartment building, a plaza and mixed-use development.
The publication says the plan was prepared by urban planner Jeff Speck of Massachusetts, the author of “Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time.”
The plan evolves from the proposed West Lakes Corridor rail project which would provide commuter rail service to Chicago, from northwest Indiana communities, such as Hammond.
