The Boeing-built military aircraft is used by the U.S. Navy for anti-submarine warfare. Modeled after the civilian Boeing 737, it is often armed with torpedoes and sonobuoys.
The Department of Defense says the modified contract calls for wide-ranging maintenance work, including airframe modifications and engine replacement. The Pentagon says the work supports not only the Navy but the government of Australia and other foreign military sales customers.
The DOD says the work will be performed in Indianapolis and is expected to be completed by October 2020.
The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
