Elkhart County is already known as the recreational vehicle capital of the world for the number of RVs it manufactures. Now, it wants to be known for getting them back on the road following repairs and maintenance.

Leaders from the RV industry will open the RV Technical Institute in the city of Elkhart.

The RV Industry Association says this new institute will address the industry’s shortage of trained technicians. RVIA says by increasing the number of RV-specific mechanics, it will reduce the amount of down time for customers and get them back on the road quicker.

The RVTI will serve as a central hub in which operators hope to lower repair times.

The new 18,000 square foot facility features seven classrooms and 10,000 square feet of bay space for hands-on training, according to the RVIA.
