The move comes two weeks after the company said it is closing two assisted living facilities in Indianapolis.
Justus says it has broken ground on Woodland Terrace in Danville, the third such community carrying that name. The other two locations are in Carmel and New Palestine.
Justus expects to open its independent living cottage homes for rent next spring. The company says a community building with 114 apartments will follow in 2021. The apartments will include independent living, assisted living, and memory care.
Two weeks ago, the company announced it was making changes at Crestwood Village East and Village West complexes in Indianapolis. Justus intends to eliminate registered assisted living and will now focus its attention on independent living.
According to a WARN letter sent to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the company announced layoffs of about 100 people at the two facilities. Justus says some employees may be able to transfer to another facility, while others will be let go.
