Subscribe NowThe Healthcare Foundation of La Porte has broken ground on its new headquarters, which will include a conference and learning center. The 12,000-square-foot facility will also include incubator space, which the foundation says will allow young nonprofits a chance to remove barriers and allow them to grow.
The foundation says the primary function of the center will be to hold seminars, host speakers and offer educational activities for nonprofits. The incubator aims to give organizations a place to work and collaborate with their nonprofit mentors, designers, and industry experts.
"HFL’s evolution is logical as money alone cannot change a community. A significant part of the plan relies on the development and enhancement of deeper partnerships with and across organizations and our community,” said Maria Fruth, president & CEO of HFL.
Started in 2016, the HFL is a private foundation dedicated to promoting health and wellness for the residents in and around La Porte. But it’s more than talk. HFL says the new office will be built along the recently established Chessie Trail, giving meeting goers and others a place to walk. HFL says it will add a water/rest stop for trail users. In March, the foundation provided a $232,000 grant for the 20-percent local match to build the walkway.
“It is only by working together toward common goals that we will successfully reach our vision – to be among Indiana’s top 10 healthiest communities by 2030,” said Fruth.
The new HFL building will be located less than two miles from its current office.
