The developers told our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana the 225,000-square-foot casino will be “top of the line.”
According to the plans, as visitors enter the casino, they will pass a large, neon-lit guitar, a signature icon of Hard Rock properties. The paper says as players pass through the center of the casino, they will encounter numerous table games and slot machines. Spectacle Entertainment says the facility will be surrounded by bars and restaurants, including a Hard Rock café.
"First quality all the way" is how Rich Ziegler, Spectacle vice president of development describes the gaming venue. "The architects and the interior designers have done an outstanding job, and we’re very excited."
Spectacle hopes to open the land-based casino in late 2020. The company told the Gary Common Council’s Planning Committee that within three years after the opening, the company will have built a 10-story hotel and a parking structure.
According to The Times, Ziegler said the backside of the casino facing the expressway largely will mirror the front side to entice travelers to get off the highway and visit the casino.
"The presentation we make to the interstate is very important to us," Ziegler said
The paper says the full Gary Common Council is due to vote August 20 on authorizing the rezoning of the casino site and a resolution endorsing the relocation of Gary’s casinos from Lake Michigan to the land-based site. The Indiana Gaming Commission is expected to give final approval for the relocation at its August 28 meeting.
