Hoosier Counties Among ‘Healthiest Communities’

The list is based on an evaluation of nearly 3,000 communities nationwide in categories including population health, education and food & nutrition.
The rankings were determined in partnership with the Aetna Foundation. They show how the communities performed in 81 metrics, including hospital bed availability, population with no health insurance, smoking rate, preventable hospital admissions, teen birth rate, and access to child care facilities.

Hamilton County is the only Indiana community to be included in the top 10, ranking at number seven. Out of the top 500 communities, the Indiana representatives include:
- 143: Boone County
- 166: Hendricks County
- 209: Hancock County
- 387: Johnson County
- 399: Warrick County
Douglas County, Colorado ranks at the top of the list, followed by Los Alamos County in New Mexico, the city of Falls Church in Virginia, Loudoun County in Virginia and Broomfield County in Colorado. You can connect to the full list by clicking here.
