Subscribe NowIndiana single-family construction starts in 2018 increased 6 percent over 2017, according to new data from the United States Census Bureau. Indiana Builders Association President Don Thienaman calls 2018 "a busy year for our builders," but says the organization expects this year to be relatively flat.
IBA Chief Executive Officer Rick Wajda says challenges that loomed in 2018 remain a concern to the industry, including "rising costs from regulations, the shortage of buildable lots, a lack of skilled labor and tariffs on building materials."
The Census Bureau report, which was delayed by the federal government shutdown, also reported a 4 percent increase in December 2018 over the same month the previous year.
