He will fill the remaining year of the term of Terry Seitz, who announced earlier this month he accepted a senior staff position with U.S. Senator-elect Mike Braun.
Vonderheide, currently a member of the Jasper Common Council, will begin serving as mayor January 1.
He retired in April 2015 after a 32-year career with Kimball International Inc. (Nasdaq: KBAL). That month, he also founded White River Hops LLC, which provides craft beer makers with Indiana-grown hops.
Seitz has been Jasper’s mayor since 2012.
