Board of Trustees members Friday approved the new minor along with a new sport management program, and the renaming of two health programs on campus.
The new business analytics minor was added after a survey of Scott College business students in March of last year found at least 32 students had a strong interest in the minor, of which at least half will still be enrolled once the new minor is added in the fall of 2019.
“Research shows the job market for people with skills in business analytical methods — including data mining, forecasting, statistical analysis, simulation and optimization — is growing,” said Brien Smith, dean of the Scott College of Business. “In fact, federal labor data shows employment opportunities for management analysts and business analysts is up 14 percent from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average occupation.”
The sport management program will start in fall 2019, if approved by the Indiana Higher Commission on Higher Education. The plan calls for the current sport management concentration to be its own major, which will be 45 credits and will have specific classes for the industry rather than the general courses now offered for several programs. The new proposal also changes the recreation management and youth leadership majors, which would become a two concentration program that would share a 30 credit core, along with cores of 18 credits for youth leadership and 39 credits for recreation therapy.
The school would also change, upon approval, the Master of Health Sciences to Master of Public Health and Bachelor of Public Health to Bachelor of Health Sciences. The changes would go into effect next fall.
