IU Health West Plans ‘Crane Christening’

Subscribe NowIU Health West Hospital will Friday hold a different sort of groundbreaking to mark the beginning of work on an $83 million expansion. The hospital will hold a "crane christening" ceremony, where teams that will be working on the hospital’s three new floors will break champagne bottles on the body of a crane.
The project will add about four dozen beds, a new operating room and additional laboratory and support service space. The work is expected to take about two years to complete. Friday’s crane christening comes on the anniversary of the hospital’s opening 14 years ago. IU Health first announced plans for the expansion in October 2017.
Over the summer, President Art Vasquez told Inside INdiana Business that limited space at the Hendricks County facility has led to hundreds of patients each year being transported elsewhere.
