ACSC Announces Retirement, Hire

The school board trustees presented a commendation to her for more than 24 years of service. DeWeese decided not to run for re-election and will retire at the end of the year.
She was lauded for her visionary and dedicated service to the school corporation. DeWeese was elected to serve on the board in 1994 and is the longest serving female board member. She also founded the Avon Education Foundation, which now has benefited thousands of students and teachers throughout the district. The DeWeese Legacy Fund to support the performing arts was establish upon her retirement from AEF.
Also, Amber Walters has been appointed principal at Avon Intermediate School West, effective January 21. She currently serves as principal of Nora Elementary School in MSD Washington Township, where she led staff and students to improve the Nora school letter grade from an F to a B. Walters was also named the 2017-18 Administrator of the Year for the district.
Walters is succeeding Dr. Dustin LeMay who was appointed ACSC’s director of teaching and learning.
In addition to serving at MSD Washington Township, Walters was an educator at Brownsburg Community School Corp. and Wake County Public School System in North Carolina. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Indiana State University and an M.A.E. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University.
