IU Accelerates Residence Hall Projects

Subscribe NowThe Indiana University Board of Trustees has approved a proposal to speed up plans to renovate two residence halls. The work on Foster and McNutt halls is part of an overall plan to invest $300 million in student housing over the next six years on the Bloomington campus.
In February, trustees heard plans to renovate Foster and McNutt halls in 2021-2022 and 2023-2024. That project has now been moved up to May 2019. The school says the halls will be closed during the 2019-2020 academic year, with plans to have them back open for the 2020-2021 academic year. Planned renovations include new room designs, new HVAC systems and upgraded amenities and decor. The project will also address mold concerns in the building.
The accelerated plans, along with the pending construction of the new North Hall and ongoing renovation of Teter Hoffman, represents a more than $170 million investment. The new North Hall, which will feature space for 700 students, is slated to be complete in 2020. Teter Hoffman, Thompson and Wissler halls are expected to open to students in August 2019, after renovations. Work on the three other buildings in Teter will begin in May.
IU says the housing selection process for the 2019-2020 academic year is under development.
