JLI members present applicants for the funding and award the support after a pitch competition. The Community Assistance Grants of up to $50,000 are awarded after members vote on applicants who best support preparing students for academic success.
The top grant winner this year is Teachers’ Treasures, a downtown Indianapolis store that distributes free school supplies to teachers and students in need. The $50,000 grant will be used to establish a second store at Northwest Middle School where homework kits will be distributed to students.
The two other finalists, who received $20,000 each, were Indy Women in Tech and The Villages of Indiana. Horizon’s at St. Richards, Hope Academy, Assistance League of Indianapolis, Paramount Schools of Excellence, Exodus Refugee, and the Oaks Academy were all awarded $5K to $10K.
JLI also donated $50,000 to the Patachou Foundation to establish a new community kitchen. The foundation currently serves meals to food-insecure children, with over 31,500 meals served to over 1,200 Indianapolis children. Click here to learn more about JLI’s grant program.
