The family-owned company says demand grew after a 2018 article in USA Today ranking West Baden Springs as number two in the country for hotel sleep quality. Bowles hopes to have a series of three mattresses used in the hotel available in stores by President’s Day weekend next year.
West Baden Springs began using Bowles mattresses in its hotel rooms in 2015. The mattresses had previously been available for sale through the hotel, but only if the buyer was able to travel there and transport it. The resort says the partnership will make buying the mattresses much easier for visitors who want them.
George and Opal Bowles founded Bowles Mattress Co. in 1975. The company distributes in Indiana, Kentucky and southern Ohio. All of the mattresses are produced in Jeffersonville. It sells through retail partners and a contract division that works with hotels, universities, charitable organizations and senior living facilities.
The company and resort will officially launch their partnership on January 21 during an event at West Baden Springs.
Armstrong says being in the resort gives Bowles Mattress instant credibility.
MacKinnon says partnering with a small, local company has had big benefits for the resort.
