The latest round of grants brings the total community investments to $53 million.
“Working to improve the health of our communities and our consumers remains the focus of what we do every day at the Anthem Foundation, and today we are reaffirming our promise to deliver innovative solutions that are addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our communities,” said Gail K. Boudreaux, President and CEO of Anthem. “From reducing preterm birth rates to doubling cardiac arrest survival rates and expanding access to healthy food, we’re partnering with some of the most impactful nonprofits to improve, and in some cases, save lives.”
The grants include funding to Richmond, Virginia-based Fit4Kids to enable them to expand its learning garden program to supply fruits and vegetables to public school children. Florida’s Camillus House will use funding to help homeless suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues.
The foundation used public health data and social mapping technology to identify, down to the zip code, where funding needs to be directed for the greatest impact. A competitive grant process then whittled down the nonprofits to support the foundation’s Healthy Generations initiative to help with maternal practices, diabetes management, cancer prevention and more.
