DePauw University alumni are making gifts to their school to mark the centennial year of Edward and Lucy Rowland Rector’s scholarship gift, which will be celebrated on campus next May. 

President Mark McCoy announced $2.6 million in leadership gifts for the Rector Scholarship endowment. Edward and Lucy Rowland Rector’s gift to the university in 1919 marked the beginning of the scholarship, which has produced more than 4,000 DePauw graduates.

“The Rector Scholarship transformed DePauw and uplifted the life trajectories of generations of alumni leaders,” said President McCoy.  “We are grateful for those alumni who are now investing in the Rector Scholarship endowment, reciprocating to make a DePauw education possible for future generations of students.”

Rector Scholars include astronaut Joe Allen, former U.S. Rep. Lee Hamilton and pharmaceutical executive Phyllis Ferrell. Commitments totaling another $3.4 million were made before the Rector Centennial Initiative. Prior and new commitments now total $6 million. The Centennial celebration will take place on campus May 10-12, 2019.
