Dave Harner says the 54-hole event, which begins Monday, continues to attract international attention to the southern Indiana landmark. Approximately one million Golf Channel viewers throughout the world will be exposed each day, Harner estimates.
When the event launched last year, it was held at the same time as a new Symetra Tour event — the official developmental tour of the LPGA — at the nearby Donald Ross Course. "We really felt that the Symetra was a great event — standalone," Harner said, "so we wanted to sort of separate them, give the Symetra Tour event its identity and move the Seniors to the fall."
During an interview on Inside INdiana Sports, Harner told Bill Benner he expects the Senior LPGA event to get larger. Harner says he views women’s golfers as "an under-marketed group," adding "we feel like the more women we can expose to the game and the more people who understand women in the game, the better. We started doing our Legends Tour event back in 2013 and it’s evolved into this Senior LPGA Championship."
The Senior LPGA Championship, Harner says, is slated to be held at the Pete Dye Course for another three years.
