A pre-accelerator initiative in Bloomington has received an honor from the International Economic Development Council. B-Start, created by the Bloomington Economic Development Corp., has been named a Bronze Excellence in Economic Development Award winner.

B-Start was recognized during the council’s Annual Conference recently in Atlanta. Next year’s Annual Conference will take place October 13-16 in downtown Indianapolis.

BEDC Project Manager Anne McCombe says "since we started the pre-accelerator program to grow early stage startups, we have received overwhelming local support for the program. We are very thankful the IEDC recognized the B-Start program at the national level, and hope that this program can be replicated in other communities."

B-Start is designed to boost for-profit, high growth, innovation-driven businesses in Bloomington and it provides early-stage enterprises with coaching, activities and mentoring opportunities to "build a foundation for acceleration." Applications for the next cohort opened in August.
