Rising Sun Schools Adds Telehealth Services

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Rural School Clinic Network has expanded its telehealth services to the Rising Sun-Ohio County School Corp. The district says students from pre-school through 12th grade, as well as school staff, will be able to use telehealth technology to see a healthcare provider without leaving the school.
The technology includes digital diagnostic equipment such as a digital stethoscope and sensors, that can transmit a patient’s vital signs and other data to Highpoint Health Rising Sun Family Medicine through a broadband Internet connection. Chris Walcott, a family medicine physician at Highpoint Health, will serve as the medical provider for the program.
"To be able to leverage state-of-the-art digital medical diagnostic technology on behalf of our students and staff represents a new dimension of service," said Branden Roeder, superintendent of the Rising Sun-Ohio County Community School Corp. "This secure telehealth technology provides for an exceptional match with the excellent medical resources at Highpoint Health and Highpoint Health Physician Partners, presenting students and parents with a variety of important benefits."
Roeder says having telehealth services within the district creates a "distinct advantage" for students, especially in a district that draws on a rural and sparsely populated geographic area.
The program is the result of a grant fro the Indiana Rural Health Association, which oversees the IRSCN. Rising Sun Schools is just the latest addition to the network, which expanded to include South Ripley Elementary School in Versailles last month.
