Water Utility Breaks Ground on Treatment Facility

The project includes a new facility the utility says will upgrade its water treatment process to improve water quality.
Indiana American Water says the project will help meet new water quality regulations and enhance efficiency, system reliability, and plant safety. The new facility will add ultraviolet disinfection to the utility’s existing treatment process.
"From its earliest days, the Kokomo area’s water resources have played an important role in the development and continued success of the area over the last two centuries," said Indiana American Water President Deborah Dewey. "While we have continued to upgrade our infrastructure over the years in this community, these investments will help us to take our water quality, service and reliability to a new level of excellence."
The project also includes additional improvements at the plant are ongoing such as replacing aging groundwater wells and retiring a smaller off-channel surface water impoundment, which has reached the end of its useful life. The utility last year also replace its backup power generator.
The project is expected be complete by the end of 2019.
