Mayor Tom Henry and other city officials celebrated the grand opening Wednesday.
The 170 acre working farm was given to the city by the Chris and Maxine Salomon family in 1996 and has been used to teach kids about various aspects of agriculture. The $560,000 expansion has added a professional-grade teaching kitchen, classroom, handicap-accessible restrooms, and a gathering area and rental space to accommodate 240 people. A restored barn used for weddings, a farmer’s market, equipment barn, and a blacksmith shop also continue to operate on the farm.
“Don Wolf has been involved with the planning, funding and activity at Salomon Farm Park since its inception,” said Parks & Recreation Director Steve McDaniel. “His accomplishments are too many to list, but we owe a debt of gratitude to Don for his commitment and knowledge, as well as his generosity.”
