The $100 million Connected Care Pilot Program is designed to fund innovative telemedicine initiatives, a technology Young believes Indiana is "well ahead of the curve" in. Early-stage approval by the Federal Communications Commission will be voted on next month.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Young said telemedicine could have benefits "across the healthcare spectrum" for Hoosiers. "We can leverage the latest in technology to serve more Hoosiers, leading to better health outcomes and lower cost," he said. "There are a lot of stakeholders that I think are going to be coming together to figure out how we can A: Get access to some of these resources, working with our office and other stakeholders, and B: Make the most use of them in the state. And ultimately, our findings on the back end of piloting some innovative new models will be shared with the rest of the country."
FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr joined Young on a recent visit to central Indiana, where they viewed a demonstration of telemedicine technology at Hancock Health Center in McCordsville.
