Indiana Slips in ‘Top States’ Ranking

The state says it committed funding to 74 high-potential companies in 2016.

Indiana has slipped slightly in a national business climate ranking. CNBC’s annual America’s Top States For Business list rates the Hoosier State 16th, down from 14th last year. The rankings are determined by more than 60 metrics that measure competitiveness, which are broken down into 10 categories: overall, workforce, infrastructure, cost of doing business, economy, quality of life, technology and innovation, education, business friendliness, access to capital and cost of living.

CNBC says the main categories are weighted by how frequently they are used in state economic development marketing materials in order to rank states "based on the criteria they use to sell themselves."

Indiana was ranked on the higher end of categories including infrastructure (2nd), cost of doing business (5th) and business friendliness (4th) and the lower end for workforce and quality of life.
