Officials will Friday break ground on the $300 million Bottleworks District in downtown Indianapolis. The project involves transforming the 1.5 million-square-foot former Coca-Cola bottling plant into a mixed-use development that includes a food hall, boutique hotel and cinema.

Wisconsin-based commercial real estate developer Hendricks Commercial Properties acquired the 12-acre site from Indianapolis Public Schools in September. When complete, the Bottleworks District will feature 170,000-square feet of retail space, 180,000-square feet of office space, a food hall and market complex, residential space and a movie theater.

When the project was first announced, the developer said it hoped to open the hotel, food hall, movie theater, and more than 70,000 square feet of retail space by the end of 2019.

Indiana Economic Development Corp. President Elaine Bedel and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will be on hand for the ceremony, alongside representatives from Hendricks Commercial Properties.
