Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) has named a new president for its Diversified Business Group. Prakash Patel, who currently serves as chief operating officer of Florida-based GuideWell Group and president of GuideWell Health, will begin his new role August 6. 

Patel will also serve as an executive vice president of Anthem, reporting directly to Anthem Chief Executive Officer Gail Boudreaux. In his new role, Patel will be responsible for leading the Diversified Business Group, which includes the company’s AIM, CareMore, Health Insights and HealthCore businesses. 

"Dr. Patel is a respected leader with an impressive track record of success across a wide range of companies within our industry," said Boudreaux. "His breadth and depth of healthcare experience will serve us well in our efforts to develop innovative approaches to care that deliver higher value for Anthem and our Diversified Business Group customers while deepening our relationships within the healthcare community."

Prior to joining GuideWell, Patel held leadership roles at Access Mediquip, Magellan Health Services and Internet Healthcare Group.
