Career Exploration Program Expands

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Department of Workforce Development has added 20 middle schools from throughout the state to the Indiana Career Explorer Pilot Program. The initiative, which launched last year, aims to evaluate and strengthen college and career readiness skills among eighth grade students.
The program gives students the opportunity to use all of the components of the Indiana Career Explorer tool, which include career exploration, career plan development, and skills and work values assessments. The program also includes in-classroom instruction, all of which is designed to help students develop an education and training plan to achieve their career goals.
"A lot of enhancements were added to the ICE tool during the first year of the pilot," said Beth Meguschar, associate chief operating officer of workforce education and training for the DWD. “We are excited for our new pool of pilot schools to be utilizing our improved, school-friendly model to help students make more informed decisions in their career exploration and planning process.”
The new schools joining the program include:
- Crawford County Middle School, Marengo
- Chesterton Middle School, Chesterton
- Eastbrook Junior High School, Marion
- Elwood Junior-Senior High School, Elwood
- Holy Spirit School, Indianapolis
- Harold C. Urey Middle School, Walkerton
- Lewis Cass Junior High School, Walton
- Manchester Jr-Sr High School, North Manchester
- Monroe Central Jr/Sr High School, Randolph County
- Bluffton Harrison Middle School, Bluffton
- Belzer Middle School, Indianapolis
- Northeastern Middle School, Fountain City
- Lincoln Junior High School, Plymouth
- Tri Junior-Senior High School, Straughn
- South Knox Middle-High School, Vincennes
- Southmont Junior High School, Crawfordsville
- South Newton Middle School, Kentland
- Owen Valley Middle School, Spencer
- Sunman-Dearborn Middle School, Brookville
- White River Valley Middle School, Lyons
The new schools will join the 16 middle schools that originally participated in the pilot program. Those schools will continue the program in the 2018-2019 academic year. You can learn more about the ICE Pilot Program by clicking here.
