Agriculture students at Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne now have the opportunity to learn growing techniques firsthand. The school has officially dedicated a greenhouse on campus. 

Aquaculture is one of the various techniques and those students will directly benefit from the greenhouse, which opened in January. “The aquaculture unit will add another aspect to our greenhouse: fertilizer for the plants,” says Kelli Kreider, Agriculture program chair. “Water will circulate from fish to the plants and back to the fish. With that, students will learn about fish husbandry, processing, water control.”

Several foundations and organizations donated funding for the greenhouse, and related scholarships. Easterseals Arc students are currently finishing the first classes offered in the greenhouse, including culinary and agriculture courses. Twenty students graduated in the first year of the program in 2013, and so far this year, 80 students are enrolled for fall classes. Click here for more information on the Agriculture program.
