IU Invests in Mexico City Gateway

Subscribe NowIndiana University is opening a new international gateway in Mexico City for prospective Latino students. The facility is located on the campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and will be used to draw more international students and help facilitate relationships across borders.
Beginning Saturday, IU President Michael McRobbie will lead a delegation to the city to open the facility and visit with UNAM’s faculty. He will also attend and participate in a variety of language and culture focused events.
IU says Mexico City was chosen in response to a rise in Latino residents, businesses, and university alumni.
"Indiana University is committed to deepening its ties to this dynamic and important part of the world at a time when we are also seeing our country’s rapidly growing Latino population making increasingly important contributions to economic growth, educational development, cultural diversity and the quality of life in communities in Indiana and across the nation," McRobbie said. "By establishing a hub for the university’s wide-ranging research, scholarly and educational activities in Mexico and Latin America, strengthening our partnerships with a number of Mexico’s finest educational and cultural institutions, and deepening ties with our growing ranks of IU alumni in the region, we hope to further broaden and expand these activities as well as deepen our engagement with this important and growing demographic in the Hoosier State and the nation."
This is the fourth international gateway office that IU has opened. The others are located in New Delhi, Beijing and Berlin.
