The proposal includes new traffic signals, 65 trees, improved lighting, a multi-use trail and raised decorative center medians on 1.5 miles of Emerson Avenue. The first phase of the project is $1.8 million and includes 9 landscaped medians and road work. Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers says the plans will provide immediate and future benefits to the city. “Emerson is an important thoroughfare for Greenwood,” said Myers. “The design offers a more aesthetically pleasing experience while also adding to the city’s expanding trail system. Long-term, these improvements will act as a catalyst for additional private investment along Emerson.”
City officials believe the project will also allow for more development, with nearly 50 acres available for commercial investment. The revamped portion will stretch from Main Street to County Line Road. Construction is set to begin this month. For more details on the work, click here.
