The founders of Refinery46, located in the former Double 8 headquarters and warehouse, say it’s currently 60 percent occupied. Co-owner Brian Schutt discussed what he said is a first-of-its-kind concept last month on Inside INdiana Business With Gerry Dick.
Schutt and Jesse Cross own Homesense Heating and Cooling, and say the idea for Refinery46 came from their own company’s growing pains. They say the company had five different offices in its first seven years in business.
Schutt says, while someone may be a great plumber or electrician, they may not know a great lawyer or a good accountant. He says he hopes Refinery46 can serve as a launch pad and help companies through the early growth stage of business, where many fail.
"Refinery46 will help revitalize the Keystone corridor and provide workforce development opportunities for electricians, plumbers, painters, contractors and others in the industry," said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. Industry specific co-working spaces are growing significantly around the country and Refinery46’s focus on developing talent complements a need in our city."
The 30,000 square-foot coworking space features offices, lockers, shipping and receiving access, training space and an in-building microbrewery and Cuban kitchen. Members also get access to training sessions from attorneys, accountants and marketing specialists.
