(NYSE: WGO) has broken ground on a more than $12 million expansion project in Middlebury. The company is adding 200,000 square feet of space at its Winnebago Towables campus with plans to add up to 125 jobs by 2019.
The Elkhart Truth reports the new space will be located just east of the company’s current facility. Chief Executive Officer Michael Happe told the publication the growth of both the company and the industry created the opportunity for expansion.
Happe said the support from state and local officials helped the decision to grow in Indiana and further growth could be possible.
"Winnebago Industries has a presence in four different states and we felt for this business we wanted to continue to invest in a contiguous piece of land next to its current campus, and we think it’s the right place to be right now for this business," said Happe. "If business dictates and things keep going on the path they’re on, then we should be able to take on future phases as well. We believe the story we have unfolding at Winnebago Industries and the momentum of the Winnebago Towable business, our culture and hopefully fair wages and overall compensation and benefits for employees will allow us to attract the employees we need for this project."
Winnebago Towables first announced plans to locate in Middlebury in 2015.
