Illinois-based Gardant Management Solutions says the Silver Birch of Michigan City development will create more than 60 full-time and part-time jobs once it is fully occupied.
The facility was designed for seniors with a financial need and require help to maintain their independence. Residents will be able to take advantage of services at the development, such as personal assistance and help with medications, as well as meals, housekeeping, laundry and transportation.
"We will be providing older adults with a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling alone at home," said Silver Birch of Michigan City Administrator Rebecca Arthur. "Residents also will benefit from all of the opportunities that will be available to socialize with friends and neighbors and to participate in activities and special programs."
Silver Birch comes with a variety of amenities, such as an activity room, beauty salon, fitness room, library and recreation room, among others. The development will also have certified nursing assistants on staff, working under the direction of a licensed nurse.
The Michigan City facility joins other Silver Birch communities recently opened in Muncie and Hammond. Gardant says another Silver Birch community is expected to open in Kokomo later this year.
