As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowIU Southeast’s first internet radio station is now broadcasting live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Horizon Radio is being billed as "the student voice of Indiana University Southeast," and broadcasts music, news, sports and talk.
Assistant Professor of Journalism and Media Dr. Adam Maksl’s audio storytelling class students serve as DJ’s and also develop live shows. “The metaphor I use with my students is: I built the frame of the car and put the wheels on it, and we’re all going to pile on and push it down the hill,” said Maksl. The station is now expanding to recruit students, staff and faculty for shows covering several disciplines. Two students, Jose Aponte and Jen McNelly, serve as station managers. Aponte, McNelly, and Maksl converted the former IU Credit Union room in the University Center into a functional broadcasting studio, with even enough space to host live music.
Maksl hopes Horizon Radio news will run in conjunction with the existing Horizon student newspaper and website. Maksl also says cameras will likely be installed in the studio to be able to stream on Facebook, and to broadcast IU Southeast athletics home contests. For more information, click here
