Greenwood Approves Downtown Projects

The RDC approved a $3.7 million contract for the connector road.

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission has approved more than $4.5 million in downtown projects. They include a major exterior renovation for Planetary Brewing and a new connector road.

The Planetary Brewing project is being supported by funding from the G.R.O.W. Greenwood Initiative, which is a matching grant program to help businesses along some of the city’s most traveled corridors improve their aesthetic appeal. RDC President Brent Tilson says the results have been "tremendous" so far, saying the funding benefits both the businesses and the community.

The $3.7 million connector road will run across the northern edge of the former Greenwood Middle School property and through Old City Park. The project includes sidewalks, lighting and a drainage system.The effort will also add more than 160 parking spaces as part of a public-private partnership between the city and Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church.

At its February meeting, the RDC also gave initial consideration to purchasing a building on W. Main St. for $330,000 from a private owner. If approved the city says it will continue to lease the building to the post office through June 2019.
