The more than $35 million Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis continues to progress. The venue today showed off fitness equipment that will be part of the attraction. Director of Media and Public Relations Kimberly Harms says there is custom-built equipment for both children and adults as well as people with special needs.

Construction on the Sports Legends Experience, which spans more than seven acres, is expected to be complete by this spring. A study from the University of Michigan projected the attraction will have a $140 million impact over five years. Museum leaders expect the outdoor portion of the project to operate at least seven months out of the year, while indoor facilities will be open throughout the year.

The attraction also includes a series of 16 bronze statues of Indiana sports legends, including the Indiana Pacers’ Reggie Miller, the Indiana Fever’s Tamika Catchings and members of the Indianapolis Clowns Negro League baseball team. It will also feature sports experiences from organizations including the Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and NCAA.
