Mayor Scott Fadness says the space, which is the first of its kind in the state, positions the city to "lead the way for innovation" in Indiana and beyond. In addition to eight office suites, 50 members have joined and will use the coworking and prototyping amenities on-site. The lab, run by founder and Chief Executive Officer John Wechsler, also features dedicated desks and work spaces that Internet-of-Things-focused members can reserve.
In an interview at the Inside INdiana Business Launch Fishers Bureau, Wechsler said the IoT lab will harness existing advantages within the state. "Who better to automate the farm than a farmer? Who better to automate or systematize the plant floor than a manufacturing company? So we’re looking at leveraging Indiana’s classic strength’s in manufacturing, distribution and agriculture," he said.
The founding companies that will be in dedicated suites are: Indiana University; Fishers-based ClearObject Corp.; Outside Source, which has already been set up in the lab for multiple weeks; Flexware Innovation, which has offices in Fishers and Valparaiso; Carmel-based Rook Security; ShopperKraft, a virtual reality design technology company; Novel Bits LLC, which focuses on Bluetooth Low Energy technology; and Volktek, a networking solutions provider.
The grand opening of The Indiana IoT Lab is March 21.
