Brinegar Breaks Down Business Bills

As the 2018 General Assembly closes in on the midway point, Indiana Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brinegar says some key pieces of business-focused legislation are progressing, while others have been pared back more than he would’ve liked. In a Studio(i) interview with Gerry Dick, Brinegar discussed bills concerning workforce, township consolidation and smoking that have all advanced this week. Brinegar believes House Bill 1002 and Senate Bill 50, which call for reorganization of state workforce programs and funding and amendments to career technical education efforts, are more responsive to the business community but are "hamstrung" by the non-budget session.

Two other bills, he says — House Bill 1005, which would cut the number of township governments by one-third and House Bill 1380, which would raise the legal smoking age to 21 — fall short of the chamber’s recommendations.
