(NYSE: ANTM) has completed its acquisition of Florida-based Medicare Advantage health plan provider HealthSun. The company is not providing financial details of the deal, but says its affiliated Medicare and Medicaid plans will now serve more than 650,000 customers in Florida.
Anthem says HealthSun will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary and its associates will join Anthem’s Government Business Division.
"We are very pleased to complete the acquisition of HealthSun which has been widely recognized for providing superior care and demonstrating better health outcomes for Medicare Advantage consumers in Florida," said Gail Boudreaux, chief executive officer of Anthem. “The acquisition of HealthSun will benefit our Medicare Advantage consumers in Florida and the company’s extensive experience in creating unique integrated delivery systems will help us to better serve all of our Medicare Advantage consumers as we move forward."
Plans for the acquisition were originally announced in September. The deal follows Anthem’s failed $54 billion merger with Cigna Corp. (NYSE: CI), which officially ended in May.
