The program, a half online, half on-campus hybrid, is being developed in cooperation with IU East in Richmond and IU Southeast in New Albany. Students of the three campuses will share online classes.
IUK Psychology Department Chair Kathy Holcomb says "our community needs more licensed mental health providers, and this program allows us to fill that need. We’ve heard from many undergraduate students that they want this, as a way to further their careers. They’ve been waiting for this opportunity."
Officials say graduates of the two-year, 60-credit hour program will be set up for careers including marriage and family, drug addiction and recovery, and vocational rehabilitation counseling. Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology Rosalyn Davis says job prospects are excellent and salaries in the field range from $40,000 to $60,000 per year.
