The Indiana State University Board of Trustees has unanimously approved Deborah Curtis as the school’s 12th president. Curtis, currently the provost and chief learning officer at the University of Central Missouri, will begin her new role in January.

The university says Board Chair David Campbell will negotiate an employment agreement with Curtis as the board’s next meeting on December 15. As part of her new position, Curtis has been granted tenure as a full professor in the department of teaching and learning in the Bayh College of Education.

"I’m really proud to have this opportunity here at Indiana State, not just as an alum but because Indiana State has such a strong reputation in this region," Curtis said following the board’s vote. "I look forward to being in a leadership role with a very fine staff. We’re ready to go."

Curtis will succeed Dan Bradley, who is retiring after more than nine years with the university. ISU says she will be first woman to lead the university and only the second alum to serve in the role.
